3 children killed in Wardak army-Taliban clash

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Three children have been killed during a clash between the Talibaninfo-icon and security forces in the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Thursday.

Governor spokesman Abdul Rahman Mangal told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash erupted after the Taliban stormed an Afghan National Army (ANA) check-post in the Zenkhelo village of Shaikhabad locality.

He said during the clash a mortar shell landed on civilian house and resulted in the killing of two girls and a boy. A woman was also injured in the incident.

Mangal regretted the incident and said Governor Zandi Gul Zamani dispatched a delegation to the area to investigate the incident.

He added the victims’ family members and elders of Syedabad district would meet the governor on the issue of civilian casualties.

Samiullah, the resident of locality, said the Taliban flee the area after the security forces responded to their attack.

He said during ANA retailiatory firing a mortar shell landed on Ghulam Hazrat’s home which resulted in civilian casualties.

He said Hazrat’s three children between six to 13 years old had been killed in the incident.
